Iconic symbols of the polar regions, these paintings are inspired by the spectacular monuments of ice that are eroded into amazing sculptural shapes by wind and water.
Icebergs are mostly white in colour but the ice can be filled with compressed air bubbles allowing for a blue light to be scattered throughout giving a blue appearance. Algae often grow on the underside of the ice so that when the ice rolls over, exposing previously underwater sections green stripes are produced. These surprising colours are what I try to capture in my paintings.
